"Mirror, Mirror on the Wall Series"
2010 – 2015
This is a series of identically-sized images. Each
painting starts with a rough human outline repre-
senting the "Purusha", or "man as the representation
of mankind." Then each is worked differently to
express the transformation of the elemental man
by the dynamic of trans-national global society into a
multiplicity of avatars. |

"Black and White and In Color"
2010 – ongoing
These "portraits" are part of a project that will comprise of 1000 works. It is a commentary on the nature of American Identity. I have been inspired by various sources. The works refer to fashion ads, mug shots, identity cards, employee of the month head shots etc.
The works have a special resonance because of the recent discussions about identifying illegal immigrants, creating racial profiles, apprehending terrorists etc. I am also fascinated by the popularity of social networking sites such as Facebook, and dating sites like Match.com and eHarmony. Each person is an individual and a star in their own mind. It is about what it means to be American. |

"One Series"
2006 – 2009
Most of the paintings of the One Series are 30" x 40". They consist of
various materials that differ from painting to painting, incl.
Cow Dung, Mud, Pigment, Gold Dust, Silver Leaf, Wax, Casein,
and Magma on Canvas.
They are a reinterpretation
of the Shiva
lingam, the abstract symbol to represent the idea of Shiva: the
cycle that defines life, death and rebirth. Created after the death
of my father, these paintings for me represent the continuiyy from
life into death; the transformation of matter into spirit, through
the force of life. |

"Sunya Series"
2006 – 2009
The three round paintings of the Sunya Series are abstract
variations
of the One Series. Their diameter is 20". Oil, Sand, Wax
and Pigment
on canvas. |
|
"Doppelgaenger Series"
2006 – 2009
The subject for this series is the reinterpretation of the visual imagery of the deities and demons incarnated in various guises, who are central to the narrative of Hindu mythology.
Here, the idea is represented as a series of "self-portraits" as an homage to that heritage and cultural identity. |
